How Summer Driving Became More Comfortable With Simple Car Accessories

How Summer Driving Became More Comfortable With Simple Car Accessories

I never realized how uncomfortable driving during hot weather had become until one summer when temperatures stayed high for weeks. Every afternoon, my car felt like an oven after parking outside.

The steering wheel became too hot to hold comfortably, sunlight hit directly through the windows, and the dashboard felt extremely warm during traffic.

That was when I decided to buy a few simple accessories to make summer driving easier:

  • Sun shades & window screens
  • Car phone holders
  • Dashboard covers

I originally bought them mainly for comfort, but they also helped protect the interior and made driving less stressful during hot days.

Sun Shades Helped Reduce Heat Inside the Car

The first thing I bought was a windshield sun shade.

Before using one, entering the car after parking outside felt unbearable sometimes. The seats, steering wheel, and dashboard became extremely hot after only a few hours under direct sunlight.

The difference after using a sun shade was immediately noticeable.

What improved after installing it:

  • Lower cabin temperature
  • Less direct sunlight inside
  • Reduced dashboard heat
  • More comfortable seats and steering wheel

It did not make the car cold, of course, but it definitely reduced the extreme heat buildup.

I also added side window screens for extra shade during long daytime drives.

Passengers appreciated them too because sunlight no longer hit directly through the side windows during afternoon traffic.

One thing I learned is that foldable shades are much easier to store. Larger rigid designs sometimes become inconvenient when not in use.

A Car Phone Holder Made Navigation Easier

The next accessory I added was a car phone holder.

Before that, I usually placed my phone inside the cup holder or passenger seat while using maps. Sometimes the phone slid around during turns, which became annoying and distracting.

I finally installed a dashboard-mounted phone holder.

Why it became useful quickly:

  • Easier to view navigation apps
  • Safer hands-free driving
  • Less distraction during traffic
  • More organized dashboard area

Driving in unfamiliar areas became much easier because the phone stayed visible the entire time.

I also noticed I stopped reaching for my phone constantly while driving, which made daily commuting feel safer overall.

At first, I bought a cheap mount that kept falling off during hot weather. The adhesive weakened under direct sunlight.

I later upgraded to a sturdier adjustable mount, and it worked much better.

Dashboard Covers Protected the Interior

The last upgrade I added was a dashboard cover.

I originally bought it because I noticed sunlight slowly fading parts of the dashboard. During summer afternoons, the surface also became extremely hot.

The dashboard cover helped reduce both problems.

What I liked about it:

  • Reduced dashboard heat
  • Less windshield glare
  • Better protection from sunlight
  • Cleaner interior appearance

One unexpected benefit was reduced glare while driving.

Before using the cover, sunlight reflected strongly off the dashboard during certain times of the day. After installing it, visibility became more comfortable.

I chose a simple black dashboard cover because it matched the interior naturally and did not look bulky.

Cleaning it was also easier than constantly wiping dust directly from the dashboard surface.

Summer Driving Feels Less Exhausting Now

What surprised me most was how much these small accessories improved daily comfort during hot weather.

Before, entering the car after work felt frustrating because everything inside was overheated. Now the interior stays noticeably more manageable during sunny days.

The car also feels more organized because the phone holder keeps the dashboard cleaner and reduces loose items around the console.

Even long afternoon drives became easier because there was less direct sunlight and glare inside the cabin.

Simple Accessories Can Make a Big Difference

I used to think summer driving discomfort was just something drivers had to deal with, but these upgrades genuinely helped.

Sun shades & window screens, car phone holders, and dashboard covers are simple accessories, but they improve comfort, visibility, and interior protection during daily driving.

For anyone living in warm climates or parking outside regularly, these small additions can make driving during hot weather feel much easier and more comfortable.
